Wilson Fabrics showroom a design coup

Prior to its official opening in March, the space was ‘a shell’, according to general manager Chris Sencek. That entirely changed when the commercial fit out was completed by designer Luchetti Krelle transformed the space into a Chic & contempory textile Studio.

Sencek said Wilson is encouraging architects and interior designers to use the space as ‘their showroom’, to invite customers to see the fabric options available. There is plenty of meeting space at the large wooden topped table lined with ample seating or the more compact table settings scattered nearby for more intimate meetings.

“We wanted an inner city location that was accessible,” he said. “And we want to hold functions here on a regular basis with architects and interior designers.”

The showroom will be open every day from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with the public welcome, and all public enquiries referred to the Wilson Customer Database. And Wilson is open to all possibilities including, for example, offering the showroom for use for product presentations.

“The idea is to drive people into our showroom,” Sencek said. “There is plenty of space for private conversations and we can also have the meetings catered.”

A homage to the company’s longevity is a beautiful antique loom positioned in front of an original image from 1926 at the company Sussex St premises in Sydney. An original truck in sepia tones is pictured on a wall; the image provided by founder Arthur G Wilson’s Son and returned to Wilson Fabrics for its archives around a year ago.

This showroom is expected to be the model for other showrooms to be opened within the next 12 to 18 months in Melbourne and Brisbane.
